Sushil Motwani, Founder Ayetexcel Pvt and official India Representative of Formovie outlines some of the factors that will continue to transform user experience in 2025
According to Business Research Company’s estimates, the projectors market is expected to grow up to $14.02 billion by 2028 with a CAGR of 5.5%. This significant surge is due to a constantly growing gaming industry, increased preference for laser projection, the demand for updated technological innovations and evolving business, education as well as home entertainment needs.
Sushil Motwani, the founder of Ayetexcel Pvt Ltd and the official India representative of Formovie (a pioneer of home intelligent laser and LED projectors) says, “Technological breakthroughs, enhanced interactivity, portability and adaptability are some of the reasons that are making projectors the preferred choice today. We will see many more significant shifts in the projector market in 2025 as well.”
He offers an overview of the trends currently impacting the projector segment in India and globally:
The rise of Ultra Short Throw (UST) projectors
The days of bulky, dated, cumbersome projectors are over as is the era of traditional lamp-based projectors. Advancements like DLP (Digital Light Processing) and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) technologies apart, Ultra Short Throw (UST) devices are transforming the consumer perception about how projectors look and function. With their compact size, they fit into modern homes unobtrusively, can be easily installed, and also offer a 100-inch display from just 10 to 14 inches away. They are portable, offer plug-and-play convenience and offer advanced optics with crystal-clear images even in ambient light.
4K enhancement technology
4K enhancement technology is normative now in the projector segment and it doubles the resolution, enhancing the image clarity to a previously unimaginable level. This also makes the devices compatible with high-definition content. Consumers now increasingly look for exact colour reproduction, deep contrasts, vibrant colours and sharp details and 4K enhancement technology delivers all this and more. Even though the availability of 8K content is currently minimal, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also all set to upscale 4K content in the near future. Cutting-edge technologies like Advanced Laser Phosphor Display® (ALPD) also conjure a truly vivid cinematic experience right at home by combining laser-excited fluorescent materials with multi-colour lasers.
Multifunctionality is a prerequisite.
Be it for gaming or home entertainment, consumers today do not only want a large screen size, high resolution, low input lag, a quick refresh rate, exact detailing and sharp contrast, they also want multifunctionality. Thankfully, the integration of AI and Machine Learning (ML) tools is facilitating user-friendly features, personalised user modes, predictive maintenance and a multifaceted interface. Not to mention voice assistance features and connectivity options, including HDMI, USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Consumers also prefer devices which are laced with native app integrations, like Netflix, to avoid additional paraphernalia to enable streaming.
Versatility and flexibility
Today’s lightweight UST projectors, as mentioned before, are compact, portable, easy to install and are perfect companions for indoor and outdoor entertainment. Their versatile design allows seamless use in different spaces, with simple adjustments. Moreover, the latest versions boast impressive battery life, often lasting several hours on a single charge, making them perfect for travel, extensive gaming and binge watch sessions. Unlike televisions that emit direct blue light to strain the eyes, projectors use indirect light that is better for eye health. Many projectors are now designed with eye-care in mind.
Interactive features
Interactive features in projectors continue to evolve with each new model, introducing advancements such as touch-screen capabilities and the ability to project onto 3D objects. Whether annotating presentations, drawing on whiteboards or engaging with multimedia content, touch-enabled projectors provide a more engaging experience. Some models also incorporate AI-powered gesture controls, allowing users to navigate menus or switch between apps with a simple hand movement. These features are particularly valuable in education and business environments, where collaboration and engagement are essential.
